PATINA
As Foundry Art bronze matures, a natural patina develops. Together, time, weather and wear help the bronze to darken and mellow.
We do not apply chemical patinas; rather we let our tiles patina gradually, responding naturally to the environment.

When used in a floor, time-worn paths appear as the tiles are slowly polished by your footsteps. Like the shiny nose of a well-loved statue, these are beautiful rewards that come only with age.
In floors, the higher parts of designs will gradually be polished by footsteps
Indoors, Foundry Art tiles will patina gradually, usually over a few years. In a humid or occasionally wet location, such as a shower, the patina may develop more quickly. When used in outdoors or in pools or fountains, the natural patina process is accelerated and ultimately an opaque green-black patina will develop.
To restore their original brightness at any time, Foundry Art tiles may be polished with a soft abrasive pad such as Scotch Brite. If the tiles have darkened significantly, you can polish them with copper or brass cleaner. While not necessary, paste wax may be applied to the tiles to slow down the patina process. To stop the patina process entirely the tiles can be sealed after installation with an epoxy coating, lacquer or clear enamel.
